Sensitive story dealing with a common but complex problem.
Very interesting book.
Super book. Great read. Deals with a difficult but commonplace issue with sensitivity but also with humour. Should be a must-read for all teenagers at secondary school.
An encouraging and enjoyable book for kids with any sort of problem.
Amazing
Just a fantastic read for all ages.
I really hope this book wins, Author deserves it for sure!
Thoughtful, intelligent, imaginative and well-written
Really enjoyed reading a story where the bullying theme was so sensitively handled. And I loved all the scenes between the protagonist and his teachers.
I was hooked from the start! A wonderful book that deals with the thorny issue of bullying in a realistic, sensitive and compelling way. A great read for both children and adults..
Excellent book. My kids really enjoyed it. Anything else by the same author?
Gets my vote.
A powerfully thought provoking book. Such a new and intriguing subject matter to tackle and the result is outstanding in every way. We discover that the myopia suffered by Jerry in fact has led to severe bullying problems, but to balance that horror we are led to almost mystical regions of his mind. This cleverly balanced book led me from tears of laughter when Jerry talks about his teachers to such great sadness that adults could be utterly unaware and that a child could be so cruelly ignored. One hopes such teachers are few and far between. This is a must read for all proactive parents, heads and teachers of all age groups. Its lessons and insights are so many it becomes a most pleasurable learning experience. The story is dynamic leading you on from chapter to chapter demonstrating the complex resolution of Jerry's unfortunate experiences but keeping the necessary balance of needs clearly represented so that young people would not be drawn into copying the appalling behaviour described. Sets of this book would light up PSHE sessions in school and anti bullying weeks in primaries with 9 to 11 year olds, also upward through secondary school. Its appeal however is for everyone. Such a pleasant change from crime novels and romance but equally if not more involving. Jeff Gardiner's excellent prose telling an involving and deeply satisfying tale is certainly deserving of recognition. He is tapping into a new and original genre that warrants a wide audience. Finally, I would very much like to meet Jerry at his school and come face to face with his remarkable personality. He is a contemporary superstar of the least recognised kind.
A good moral behind the story and a brilliant author :)
